Help
Viewing the Site
-
The site is optomised for viewing at a screen resolution of
1024 x 768 pixels, in a maximised window. Virtually all
modern displays and graphics cards are capable of this. It is
difficult to design web pages that are attractive and functional at all likely
resolutions. CRT displays are quite flexible in the range of
resolutions that can be displayed whilst maintaining good quality images,
LCD displays less so - due to a physical property called their
native resolution. I have checked this site on a 17" LCD
monitor at 1024 x 768, a 19" LCD monitor at both 1024 x 768 and 1280 x
1024 and a 19" CRT monitor at the same two resolutions - without any
readability issues.
-
In addition to the above, the browser that is used will
have some effect on the way the site appears. I have viewed the
site with Internet Explorer 6, Firefox and Netscape 7.2x / 8.0x versions
with no problems (as long as appropriate settings are made in each browser).
The site contains no IE-specific coding.
-
A few features require that javascript can run in your
browser. If you do not know how to enable the capability in your
browser of choice, you are advised to contact your I.T. support or a
knowledgeable user.
-
Note: As this site is still in the early stages
of development, and updates/changes are likely to be implemented quite
frequently, make sure you re-visit more often than perhaps you would
normally and click the 'Refresh' button in your browser for each
page viewed to ensure that you are not looking at an out-of-date page which
your browser has fetched from its cache.
Navigating the Site
-
This website uses Frames to facilitate easy browsing.
Most modern browsers support Frames.
-
The main menu on the left-hand side will remain static and
visible on each page, even though you may scroll down the right-hand
pages.
-
To return to the 'Home' page from anywhere on the website,
click the AURPO logo at the top of the main menu.
-
When clicking a link to an external website or a pop-up
graphic (e.g. a map), the new page will appear in a new window.
Depending on your browser and any preferences you may have set,
you may have to re-size or maximise the new window to see the contents as
intended.
-
To print the contents of a pop-up window which has no
toolbars visible, hold Ctrl+P and choose printing preferences in the
window which appears.
Viewing/Downloading Linked Documents
-
Most documents (newsletters, leaflets etc.) on the
website are either .pdf (Adobe Acrobat) or .doc (Microsoft Word)
files, and these can be of large file sizes. The contract
with our hosting service has a monthly limit for data traffic.
Although we pay for a reasonably generous capacity, we would
appreciate your help in keeping our data traffic at a reasonable
level.
-
By simply clicking on a link to a document, your
browser is likely to open that document for viewing immediately on your screen.
Each time you do this, a certain amount of data traffic is
generated. So, if you go back to the document several times,
you will generate much more data traffic. If you are
interested in a document which is likely to be large (e.g. guidance notes,
newsletters), that you are likely to look at more than once, or
that you are probably going to print at some time, you can help us by
doing the following:
Right Click with your mouse on the link,
and you should be presented with a menu which includes an option to '
Save Target As... '. If you click on this option, you
will be asked where on your own computer you would like to save the file,
and then taken through the steps to do this. You will then be
able to open the file and read or print it as many times as you wish,
without having to re-visit the website. ( Note: This
applies to PCs with modern operating systems, other types of computer may
effect this operation in a different manner - you are advised to consult your
I.T. support, or a knowledgeable user if you need help with this functionality.
)
Reporting Problems
-
Please report any broken links, strange effects etc. to
webmaster@aurpo.org.
I will not always be able to give a personal reply to each e-mail,
but your input is valuable to maintaining an effective and
fully-functional site.
